EHR Incentive Program Medicaid audits will be conducted by the Department of Healthcare and Family Services and the Office of the Inspector General, Bureau of Medicaid Integrity.

Any Eligible Provider (EP) attesting and receiving an EHR incentive payment through the Illinois Medicaid EHR Incentive program is subject to an audit.

ILHITREC suggests maintaining your audit trail to be prepared for an audit. The audit trail should include:

  • EP eligibility information
  • CHERT qualifying information
  • Program Story: Year, Stage, Reporting Period
  • Meaningful Use Objectives
  • Clinical Quality Measures
  • Measure documentation for the attestation year.

Other important information:

  • Two people (minimum) should know where the audit file is located and have access to it.
  • These selected people should be well versed in Meaningful Use, organization workflows, and how you achieved the measures
  • They should also be able to answer questions about the EHR Incentive Program.
